The Rise of the Tech Baby

Rise of tech babies

Innovation is on the rise in all parts of our lives, making our lives safer and easier. Technology is innovating all sectors, from energy infrastructure to fashion and work. You don’t have to work for a civil engineering company to experience the benefits of tech – because technology is now making its way to your home.

And by home – it includes your kids and babies. Technology is bringing an edge to what we would consider classic baby products, designed to take away some of the stress and fear from parents – especially new mums and dads. Some of the special mentions that have become popular this year are sleep devices, baby monitors and feeding products.   We all know how hard it can be to get a fussy baby to sleep, or if we don’t know, we know someone who is sleep deprived because of it. White noise has been used by mums and dads to encourage sleep by blocking out external noises and creating a rhythmic flow that helps babies to relax. Gone are the days where you would need to play a tape, CD or even find a YouTube recording. You can now buy a range of White Noise machines which can produce different sounds. These can even come as a cute cuddly toy so that you can take with you in the pram.

Technology for babies

We all know how hard it can be to get a fussy baby to sleep, or if we don’t know, we know someone who is sleep deprived because of it. On a similar note, once you have put your baby to sleep, how can you be sure they are safe? Baby monitors have come a long way from being a static filled one-way speaker. You can now engage with your baby, see your baby and even monitor your baby’s heart rate and oxygen levels. There are many smart monitors available now that can feed back video via your smart phone. This means you can watch your baby while they sleep (or don’t sleep) even when you aren’t home. This technology has been taken to the next level with some monitors allowing two-way feedback, so that you can communicate with your child. When it comes to your baby’s heart rate and oxygen levels, technology has gone that step further to ease your mind. The Owlet Smart socks are just one product that can measure these levels, feeding the information back to your phone and alerting you if levels leave the pre-set zones.

If you can have a coffee machine, why can’t your baby have a milk machine? Just like your coffee machine, there are now bottle prep machines for your little one. With a few brands out there, the Tommee Tippee product seems to offer it all. Not only does it sterilize the bottle first, it then mixes and warms the milk ready for your baby to enjoy. All of this in less than two minutes. Night time feeds can’t get any easier than that. If your baby likes warm milk, another gadget available is self-warming bottles. There is no need to ask the café for a microwave or hot water when out and about. These lifesavers have a portable heating element which warms the milk to the natural temperature of breast milk.

These are just a few advances in technology we have seen over the past couple of years. It is exciting to see what’s to come.
